• Book design is not just about placing words on a page. It is a delicate balancing act between space and clutter, stimulation and calm, and black and white. In short, it is a way for ordinary words leap off the page and into your heart

    1 TYPOGRAPHY

Book design should be left to those who think spending hours looking for "just the right font" is their idea of a good time. I love every minute I spend examining glyphs and ligatures until I find the perfect typeface for any given project.

    2 CONTENT

In order to match the medium and the message, first you must read the text. This may seem obvious, but many book designers skip this step. To me, that would be like a chef creating a dish out of ingredients he has never tasted.

    3 GRAPHIC ART

The creation of original images for covers and interiors is one of the very best parts of my job. The goal of the art is not to overshadow the words, but to complement them.
